A Proof of Concept (PoC) for Recyclable Packaging: Container + Liner in Partnership with Ching Yeh P

Pro-Design, in collaboration with Ching Yeh Paints and Dafon Environmental, is promoting a Proof of Concept (PoC) for "container + liner" recyclable packaging. Through actual construction site use, empty bucket recycling, reprocessing, and remanufacturing, they are demonstrating a "bucket-to-bucket" recycling model. This collaboration was made possible primarily by Ching Yeh Paints willingness to implement recyclable packaging in actual construction sites. Ching Yeh Paints has long been deeply rooted in the Taiwanese paint market, continuously focusing on green building materials, the construction environment, and supply chain sustainability. This allowed the PoC to truly examine the practical operation and recycling conditions of recyclable packaging from the perspective of frontline usage.

Reducing Barriers to Paint Bucket Recycling with "Container + Liner"
Paint containers often have paint residue after use, making subsequent cleaning and recycling difficult. The "container + liner" design introduced this time primarily reduces direct contact between paint and the outer bucket through the liner. After construction, the liner is separated from the outer bucket, keeping the outer bucket cleaner and increasing the likelihood of it entering the resource recycling system.

From Construction Site Recycling to Drum Manufacturing
This demonstration project recycled approximately 220 kg of clean empty drums. The recycled drums were then professionally crushed and granulated by Dafon Environmental, a company with a long history of resource recycling and reprocessing, ultimately producing PCR (Post-Consumer Plastics) recycled material. This recycled material was then used by Pro-Design Group to remanufacture plastic drums, completing this circular process verification from "use, recycling, regeneration to remanufacturing." Dafon Environmentals expertise in recycling, sorting, and reprocessing was a crucial link in ensuring the completeness of this circular chain.

Simultaneous Verification of Usage Stability in Actual Construction Environments
Besides environmental benefits, reusable packaging must also meet the needs of actual construction and handling. Therefore, this Proof of Concept (PoC) also included a four-drum stacking and tipping test and a 1.8-meter drop test to observe the stability of the containers, lids, and liners under handling, stacking, and construction conditions, serving as an important basis for future continuous optimization.

From a PoC to Accumulating Experience for the Next Step in Circulation
The significance of this PoC goes beyond simply completing a recycling and remanufacturing process. It involves actually connecting paint brands, application sites, recycling and remanufacturing, and packaging manufacturing to confirm whether the different stages can operate sustainably. We especially thank Ching Yeh Paints for their willingness to invest in real-world validation, and we also thank Dafon Environmental for providing professional resource recycling support, enabling this "bucket-to-bucket" recycling model to complete its initial validation. In the future, Pro-Design Group will continue to work with partners to accumulate practical operational experience, further observe recycling efficiency, the quality of recycled materials, and scalability, and look forward to providing the paint and related industries with more packaging options that balance usage needs with resource recycling.
